The architects’ brief consisted of transforming an old, typical Valletta townhouse, previously used for residential purposes into a luxury guesthouse. The idea was to keep the traditional feel of the house whilst adding a contemporary feel. The original flooring of the house, which was made of traditional patterned tiles, was considerably damaged and so it was decided to replace all the flooring. The Verdala Palace is the official summer residence of the President of Malta. It was built by Grandmaster Hugues Loubenx de Verdalle in 1586 on the site of a hunting lodge previously owned by Grandmaster Jean Parisot de Valette. Inaugurated the newly restored Russian Chapel in San Anton Palace. This is one of the two chapels in the palace. Starting out as a chapel for Protestant worship, for the British Governors, the chapel was given over to the Orthodox denomination in the second half of the 19thvCentury. This change was affected due to the fact that Prince Alfred, son of Queen Victoria, was stationed in Malta and was married to Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna, daughter Tsar Alexander II. She had introduced in the matrimonial contract the right to practice her religion and this chapel was placed at her disposal. …
