Halmann Vella has breathed new life into the iconic Portomaso Stairs in St. Julians, through a remarkable refurbishment project. Originally constructed in 1999, these stairs have undergone a meticulous renovation to accommodate the constant flow of visitors, including residents, boat owners, and pedestrians who frequent the area. Once again, Halmann Vella has created a visually captivating and functional space that harmonises with the vibrant atmosphere of Portomaso. The main outstanding feature of Halmann Vella’s refurbishment is the innovative use of brushed finish travertine for the stairs and floor landings. Finishing a project up to the highest standards and on time is not the easiest task in the midst of a pandemic. But the Halmann Vella team worked around the clock to finish a total area of 200sqm of flooring for Baystreet Shopping Complex.  Essential geometries for the external tiling in BSP Grey and Piombo, and a centrepiece on Level 2 made in Macchia Perta by Infinity Surfaces. Designed by Carlo Schembri.    

The M.U.S.E.U.M Auditorium is a fascinating project, realised in 2019. It took us approximately a year to detail, fabricate and install tonnes of travertine to furnish this masterpiece according to the Clients’ and Architects’ vision. The Travertine Classico marble was sourced from the mountainous region outside Tivoli, where the marble was selected from a particular strata with a careful consideration of its size, hue and structural integrity of the quarried mass. Approximately 10, twenty-two tonne blocks were used to furnish the space, 250sqm of material were sawn and cut into 100mm thick slabs for the production of the radial auditorium …

With coveted locations in Hong Kong, Paris and Mykonos, Beefbar launched their latest destination in Malta in the summer of 2019. Situated at the edge of St. Paul’s Bay, this project promised to take Malta’s fine dining scene to a whole new level of understated luxury by the sea. Natural Stone Crazy Paving was the material selected for the beautiful pool area as well as the kitchen, providing a quintessential Mediterranean feel but with a modern and contemporary twist. Halmann Vella clad the new Farsons Brewery Corporate Office in Carrara marble, creating a contrasting continuity with the existing masonry exterior.

The Portomaso Laguna is a new luxury residential development facing the Portomaso Marina. Featuring a private laguna that will service only the residents, who will have direct internal access to it from their respective apartments. Halmann Vella installed ceramic cladding and raised flooring as well as the pool coping and sills.

Terrazzo and Porfido flooring were selected for landscaping at Housing estate in Mgarr. Both materials are very durable and ideal for exterior spaces, whilst visually adding texture to the space. They are ideal for ramps, garden passage ways, light vehicle roads, interior and exterior walls, public squares and sidewalks.

Halmann Vella was the main supplier of natural stone and assisted in the construction of the M&G Garden, one of the main gardens at the 2017 Chelsea Flower Show. The garden, which was designed by James Basson, director of Scape Design, was awarded a Gold Medal as well as the prestigious award for Best Show Garden and Best Construction. The garden was modelled on the Maltese landscape, particularly a disused Maltese quarry and utilised Maltese stone as well as a number of plants which are endemic to Malta.
