Terrazzo Flooring at east London rail line
Tiles made in Malta form part of The new East London Rail Line which recently opened to the public, forming part of the London Overground network. Hal Mann International Ltd (part of Hal Mann Vella Ltd of Mosta) developed, in conjunction with
the London based lead architects for the project, a special terrazzo flooring tile to meet the strict performance requirements demanded for this project. This tile, developed over a period of two years, is a mixture of special aggregates manufactured at the Mosta factory under strict quality control. The tiles are then shipped to the UK and then installed by approved specialist UK installation companies following methods particular to this tile and its use. Flooring surfaces for TFL, (Transport For London), have to meet a whole variety of performance specifications including being slip resistant in wet conditions, hard wearing and easy to maintain. Of course they must look good too.
The Hal Mann flooring tile, known as the RM-642 was used at stations Woolwich Arsenal, Dalston Junction, Haggerston, Hoxton and the flagship Zone 1 station Shoreditch High Street.
